CATCHING YOUNG SCIENTISTS 

 

The Mumbai Science Teachers’ Association conducts Dr. Homi Bhabha Young Scientists Competition every year to encourage students to take interest in Science, to inculcate scientific attitude and search the talent in students.

This competition is based on the scientific knowledge acquired by the students’ up to std. VI and IX. There are four stages in the competition, comprising a written test, practical examination, an extensive project on a relevant environmental issue, and an interview.

This year(2015-16), 58 students of SPM English School, Pune appeared for the written test out of which 32 students were selected for the practical test.

Five students from class VI of SPM English School were selected for the final project and interview round. At the third stage, the candidates were selected to conduct a research project which included field visit, scientific data collection and tabulation of findings and facts.

Advay Argade, Rohan Kulkarni and Madhur Vaidya won the silver medals for their research work for their project, “Unhealthy Intake of Food and Drinks".

Hrishikesh Walvekar and Neha Joshi bagged the bronze medals.
